Picture yourself taking an evening to just be alone, no friends, no family, no phone. It’s a soft winter, your breath barely clouding when you exhale, from your front porch you see the light covering of snow shine under the moon’s glow, the steam from your cocoa wafts lazily by your face, the evening is still…your world is silent, comforting, renewed. This is how I felt after reading A Court of Frost and Starlight.
The Court series has been one big inhalation, a breath-holding adventure – relationships tested, friendships destroyed, families killed or separated, pain, suffering, extreme joy, and sorrow. The end of A Court of Wings and Ruin foreshadowed change. A Court of Frost and Starlight brought that change to fruition.
Honestly, did I want flames and explosions, angst and devastation – okay, maybe a little – it is what I’ve come to expect! As Hemingway imagined, Sara J. Maas chose the path less traveled – and I am very happy she did.
Will this tranquility last – presumably not (positively not), as another war looms inevitably. So, be grateful for the respite that A Court of Frost and Starlight provides. Maas treated her characters like game pieces – moving one here, pulling one back there – setting the stage, surely, for something grand. This is our transition, our preparation to face the darker nights! (Plus…it’s not a bad thing – we are all going to be dying for the next Court book to make an appearance!!)
